Celebrating 200 Years Along the Wabash
In honor of Indiana’s Bicentennial in 2016, our aim was to promote at least 200 events along the Wabash River. The Indiana portion of the Wabash River corridor encompasses 19 Indiana counties. Funded in part by the Wabash River Heritage Corridor Commission, this project was intended to be very collaborative and interdisciplinary. We wanted to make the Wabash River an important part of the Bicentennial celebration, just as it played a key role in our journey to becoming a state!
Our Goals for 2016 were to:
- Help people of all ages celebrate Indiana’s Bicentennial.
- Make the Wabash River a destination!
- Promote awareness about the importance of the Wabash River corridor in Indiana’s past, present and future.
- Promote 200 events along the Wabash River Corridor in 2016
200 Events along the Wabash:
Events were to celebrate the Wabash River in a wide variety of ways. They ranged from guest speakers to art exhibits, concerts, festivals, re-enactments, and river cleanups. They were either ongoing annual events or specially planned one-time-only bicentennial events.
